Autumn is an excellent time for gardening especially in Queensland, Australia because the air is cooler and plants can thrive without the harsh heat of summer. Surprisingly, autumn is crucial to getting the best outcome for your garden in spring. However, you need to prepare and plan for your autumn garden with the rightgarden supplies if you want to keep it healthy throughout the season. Here are some autumn gardening tips to help you out:

Plant seasonally

Planting veggies like broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, lettuce, spinach, and kale in autumn is ideal. These plants thrive in lower temperatures.

Clean up garden beds

As summer plants begin to die out, garden beds must be cleaned to prevent disease and pests. To properly clean your garden beds, remove any dead plant material and weeds, then cover the soil with a layer of compost or mulch to prevent erosion and nutrient loss. If you don't regularly move the leaves that fall on your lawn and garden in the fall, they'll overtake your grass and plants.

Divide and transplant perennials

Perennials are ideal for division and transplanting in autumn. This will not only assist in regulating their size, but will also revitalize them for higher performance the next year.

What  garden supplies do you need for autumn?

With these basicgardening tools, you can make your autumn gardening duties easier and more productive:

Garden gloves -Garden gloves are a necessity. They will protect your hands from thorns, prickly stalks, and hard dirt not to mention they help keep your hands warm in cool weather.

Rake -A rake is an essential tool for autumn gardening, especially because you’re likely to have lots of fallen leaves and other debris throughout your yard.

Pruning scissors -Pruning shears are required for pruning back dead or overgrown plants, particularly perennials that you intend to divide and transplant.

Shovel -A shovel is useful for digging and planting, as well as moving dirt and compost around your garden beds.

Garden fork - A garden fork is useful for loosening soil and stirring compost. It can also be used to aerate your grass before fertilising it.

Wheelbarrow -A wheelbarrow is useful for hauling heavy quantities of leaves, dirt, and compost around your yard.

Leaf blower -If you have a large yard with lots of trees, a leaf blower may make rapid work of removing fallen leaves and debris.

Things to avoid when gardening in autumn

Whilst autumn can be a wonderful time to garden, there are a couple of things you’ll want to avoid in order to have a successful season. Here are a few things to avoid when gardening in the fall:

Overwatering -Whilst your plants still require water, avoid overwatering them because cooler temps mean slower growth and less evaporation. Excessive watering can cause root rot and other plant diseases.

Ignoring fallen leaves -Fallen leaves can form a blanket over your lawn and garden, suffocating your plants and preventing them from receiving adequate light and air. Make sure to always rake up fallen leaves on a regular basis and compost them.

Skipping soil preparation -soil preparation is essential before planting in the autumn, just like in any other season. Improve soil fertility, structure, and drainage by using compost and other organic matter.

Overuse of fertiliser -The overuse of chemical fertilisers can destroy important soil organisms, pollute water supplies, and cause excessive plant growth that leaves plants exposed to pests and diseases. Be sure to always read the label carefully and only ever  use fertilisers as advised.

Neglecting garden tools -Make sure to clean and store your garden tools correctly after use to avoid rust, corrosion, and damage. Sharp or filthy tools can harm plants and spread disease.
